CHICAGO -- The brother and sister of astronaut Dan Tani talked
home insurance for the first time Thursday about the death of their mother.
Ninety-year old Rose Tani was killed when her car was hit by a freight
train in Lombard on Wednesday.
Dan Tani is on the International Space Station. He has recorded a
message that will be played at his mother's funeral this weekend.
Rose Tani's children are independent clothes a remarkable woman who survived
the internment camps during World War II and raised five successful
children, including her best known son, astronaut Dan Tani. Dan
learned of her death while working aboard the International Space
Station. He said Thursday he was prepared before he left on his
mission that joy and tragedy could happen on earth while he was away.
He accepts that and plans to complete his mission, but he admits this
is a cheap homeowners insurance difficult time.

She was 90 years old going on 50. Rose Tani may have been best known
to many around the country as the mother of astronaut Dan Tani, but to
her family, she was a vibrant, active, loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. She raised five children, but her relationship with
Dan was always especially close.
"Dan was 4 when our father died and I was in high school by then so my

Christine Tani, daughter.
Dan tried to encourage his two young daughters to bond with his mother

her. Shortly after she was killed Wednesday afternoon, when her car

to speak by video conference Thursday morning.
"He's very frustrated with it but he's professional. When he joined
NASA, he understood these things could happen. He was warned these
things can happen and has no option but to stay there and continue to

has taped a message that will be played at the service.
Tani issued a statement through NASA Thursday, saying in part, "My

Her family says they were not concerned about their mother driving at

Services will be at 1:30 Sunday afternoon from First Church of Lombard
where Rose was a member for 43 years.
